What it is
I kept the previous build as it was. Hysteria is a fuzz-bass track from top to bottom, and Chris Wolstenholme's snarling Big Muff tone is the whole point of it. So a bass amp with a cranked bass fuzz is the right call here.
- Amp: @colorzh's Ashdown ABM 500. It's a real bass head, recorded without a speaker, so it needs the cab below.
- Cab: @matty's Ampeg SVT 8x10 impulse response. It keeps the low notes solid under the fuzz.
- Fuzz: @carlosalvgonz's EHX Bass Big Muff, in front of the amp with the drive set high. This is the song's main sound, so I cranked it on purpose.
- EQ: +3 dB lows, +4 dB low mids for body and grind, +2 dB upper mids so the fast sixteenth notes (the quick run of four notes per beat) stay clear. No mid scoop.
- Compressor: 4:1 ratio at -20 dB. It keeps that nonstop riff at an even level from string to string.
- Noise gate: -56 dB with a short 40 ms release. It cuts the fuzz hiss between notes without clipping them short.
There's no reverb or delay because the riff needs to stay dry and tight. I didn't park anything on a footswitch either, since the fuzz stays on for the whole song.
About your instrument: you don't have a bass on your list. The closest option is the Jackson Slat 8 on the bridge humbucker with the tone control all the way up. Its low 8th string gets down to the riff's A, and the bridge pickup keeps the fast notes sharp through the fuzz.
The chain
Signal order, in front of the amp first. Every block is a real capture of real gear — somebody else's work, named here, and downloaded on your own account. Nothing here is a model of a model.
